The reverse to-do list

In a previous post I shared my thoughts on why to-do lists don’t work. Today I’m sharing an alternative that I’ve found very useful in my personal life, the reverse to-do list.

A reverse to-do list is a list of things that you’ve done. You start the day with a blank piece of paper and write down the tasks you’ve completed throughout the day.

The main downside to reverse to-do lists is that if you don’t have a good memory you may end up forgetting important things you needed to get done.

For me it’s useful because at the end of the day it feels good seeing a list of things I’ve achieved. Following on from that I won’t want to only see 2 or 3 things, I’ll want to see a whole bunch of things. It’s especially good when I manage to accomplish the most important or urgent tasks.

I’ve found that reverse to-do lists actually make me more productive because I’m more conscious of what I’m filling my day with.

If todo lists don’t work for, maybe the reverse todo list is something worth trying.

Have you ever tried a reverse to-do list?
