October 2017

Welcome to my first post in a new monthly series where I share with you the things I’ve stopped and started doing over the past month.

STOPS

MAKEUP

I’ve stopped wearing makeup to work. The fact is I don’t like taking my makeup off at the end of the day and I’d rather do something else with my time before heading into work. There was a point when I’d just put my makeup on at work but after a while I realised that there was just no point. I’m not that fussed about how I look barefaced.

BOOKS

I’ve stopped reading books. It’s not that I haven’t read at all but I’ve not gotten past the first couple pages. I’ve been carrying some amazing books round in my bag for my morning commute but I haven’t been reading them. It’s one of those things where I know if I set time aside and give myself a chance to get into the book I’ll be able to get into it but sadly that hasn’t happened this month. However for the month of November I’m going to try and set time aside to ready each day and hopefully I’ll get back into it.

STARTS

WATER

I’ve started drinking 1-2 litres of water whilst at work. At first I started with 1 litre but after finding myself being able to finish it with a couple hours left in the office I decided to increase the amount. The reasons behind my focus on drinking water were that I don’t usually drink enough fluids throughout the day and I don’t want to constantly be drinking juice or fizzy drinks as I’m actually trying to cut them out of my diet.

There’s been times that drinking 2 litres of water would have been a struggle for me but as I’m sat at a desk for the majority of the day and I have the bottle right in front of me it’s no challenge at all. The results of doing this have been that I feel more awake in general, my skin looks better and lastly I’m peeing a whole lot (which is to be expected)!

The thing about drinking water is that we all know that it’s good for us but I know that many people don’t do it enough, I used to be one of those people. The past few weeks have made me realise that I’d prefer 80% of what I drink to be water, rather than having tea, juice and fizzy drinks as the majority.

FOOD

I’ve started eating differently. I pre-plan meals and spend Saturday mornings wandering the aisle of the supermarkets. My mindset surrounding food in general has changed significantly.  I’m enjoying the process of cooking meals and eating them 3 times a day. My diet is still far from what I view as ideal but I’m making an effort and I’m glad that things are finally moving in a more beneficial direction.

When was the last time you tried something new?
